Dedication, integrity, and a love for interior fittings have propelled Michael Soh and Redwood Interior Pte Ltd into the global manufacturer it is today.
The journey began with a simple observation he couldn’t shake off. Back in the day, most shops had sub-par interior fittings. So he decided to show the world better ways to manufacture and install fittings for retail outlets.
“I imagined that if I could make it successful, then why not do my best and give it a try?”
BUSINESSES SHOULD EVOLVE CONSTANTLY AND THE COMPANY NEEDS TO ENSURE THAT EVERYONE IS MOVING IN THE SAME DIRECTION.
With Michael in the lead, he strategically grew his company from about 20 employees in Singapore alone to now more than 1,000 employees from Malaysia, Shanghai, Paris, Tokyo, Seoul, New York and Singapore combined.
But not everything was smooth sailing. At the beginning, Redwood Interior Pte Ltd focused primarily on just interior fittings. When they set their sights into the highend market in 2005, the requirements proved close to impossible to meet. Nevertheless, they went for it. Soon, they were awarded their first project.
He learned a valuable lesson from this. Businesses should evolve constantly, and the company needs to ensure that everyone is moving in the same direction. This inspired him to transform the company’s production process from a manually run system to a highly automated factory that deploys cutting-edge equipment such as CNC machines. Thanks to this timely overhaul, the company is able to improve its efficiency and productivity.
But Michael hasn’t stopped there. He plans to break into the high-end residential market. With new facilities being ready by 2020, he is on track to achieving this goal.
